The School Day

We open our doors at 8.30am with registration taking place at 8.35-40am.

Lunchtime is 12pm to 1pm.

The school day ends at 3.30pm.

Following our recent consultation with pupils, parents, carers and staff regarding the Friday Enrichment Sessions trial, I am pleased to inform you that we will be continuing this model from September with a view to conducting a further review circa Easter time ahead of any permanent changes.  This means we will continue to open the doors at 8.30am with registration taking place 8.35 - 8.40am to ensure we continue to offer the same amount of curriculum time per week as we would if we operated a traditional Monday-Friday school lesson timetable. 

To clarify, the introduction of the Friday Enrichment Sessions does not reduce the amount of curriculum teaching that pupils receive. The school continues to deliver the full statutory number of teaching hours required. The only difference is that these hours are distributed slightly differently across the week, with a small amount of additional teaching time each morning enabling the enrichment sessions to take place on Friday afternoons.

I would like to thank everyone who took the time to complete the consultation or share their views. We were delighted that the feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many families commenting on their children's enthusiasm for the clubs, the opportunities to try new experiences and the positive impact the sessions have had on pupils' enjoyment of school and wellbeing.

As stated, when introducing the trial, our intention has always been to offer a broad and varied programme of enrichment over time. In a six-week trial it was, of course, impossible to provide every club or activity that families might like to see. Next year, we will continue to review and refresh the programme so that pupils experience a wider range of activities throughout the year, with new clubs being introduced as staffing, expertise and resources allow.

The consultation also provided some helpful suggestions about how we can further strengthen the programme. We will be considering these carefully as we continue to refine arrangements, including the way in which sessions are booked.

As the programme becomes more established, we recognise that families will be able to reflect further on the benefits and challenges. For this reason, we will seek further feedback around Easter. This will allow parents, carers, pupils and staff to reflect on the programme after it has been running for a longer period and after a wider range of enrichment opportunities has been available.

We are excited to continue developing this aspect of our curriculum. Our aim is to provide opportunities that enable every child to discover new interests, develop confidence, build friendships and enjoy memorable experiences that complement their learning in the classroom.
