Pupil Premium

Pupil premium is funding to improve education outcomes for disadvantaged pupils in schools in England. Evidence shows that disadvantaged children generally face additional challenges in reaching their potential at school and often do not perform as well as other pupils.

The funding is used to decrease the attainment gap for the most disadvantaged children, whether by income or by family upheaval. For each pupil who is eligible for free school meals, or has claimed free school meals in the last six years, our school receives £1,455.

Statement of Intent

We are committed to meeting the pastoral, social and academic needs of all our pupils and our aim is to ensure that our pupils are not disadvantaged as a result of their socio-economic context.

It is the intent of our school to ensure teaching and learning opportunities meet the needs of all pupils and by doing so, negate any gaps that exist between disadvantaged pupils and their non- disadvantaged peers.

We recognise that not all pupils who are in receipt of free school meals are socially disadvantaged and likewise, not all pupils who are socially disadvantaged are registered to qualify for free school meals.

Our school seemingly serves a leafy, educated catchment with a low IDACI score but this does not truly reflect the locality which sees quite significant differences in the quality of living for some. Nor does this take account of the fact that for many, work is seasonal. We are therefore mindful of the fact that this can disguise the needs within our community at times.

In order to achieve our objectives and overcome identified barriers to learning we will:

  • Provide all teachers with high quality CPD to ensure that pupils access effective quality first teaching.
  • Provide targeted intervention and support to quickly address identified gaps in learning including the use of small group work and 1:1 tuition.
  • Target funding to ensure that all pupils have access to trips, residentials and first hand learning experiences.
  • Provide opportunities for all pupils to participate in enrichment activities including sport and music.
  • Provide appropriate nurture support to support pupils in their emotional and social development.

We will ensure that effective teaching, learning and assessment meets the needs of all pupils through ongoing assessment for learning, assessment of learning, monitoring and the rigorous analysis of data.
